SCALING AND ROOT PLANING

Scaling and root planing is the first non-surgical step to periodontal, or deep gum cleaning. This treatment is used when pockets are greater than 3mm beneath the gum line. The procedure involves the removal of plaque and tartar that sits in these pockets. We provide local anesthesia before the procedure is started. We then use ultrasonic instruments that carefully remove the plaque and tartar down to the bottom of each pocket. Planing involves smoothing out the tooth’s root surface which helps the gum tissue to heal therefore shrinking the periodontal pocket. Most patients do not require any further procedures, only preventative care. If you have any questions on scaling and root planning, call us today.

LASER ASSISTED POCKET DECONTAMINATION

University Dental Group uses laser assisted pocket decontamination treatment for the treatment of severe gingivitis and periodontitis. This is a minimally invasive procedure using laser technology to target the bacteria hidden in the gum tissue inside the periodontal pocket. The procedure is gentle, causing very little stress or trauma to the tissues and this process initiates faster healing. Dr. Rosello provides TwinLight Periodontal Treatment, a minimally invasive gum disease treatment that uses 2 laser wavelengths. This treatment helps with removing any diseased gum and can destroy harmful bacteria. This Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure allows for TRUE REGENERATION of lost periodontal attachment. With TwinLight gum disease treatment there is no need to use a scalpel to treat periodontal disease. TwinLight is more comfortable, a more thorough cleaning and there are fewer complications which helps lower the risk of infections due to the antiseptic properties of the Fotona Lightwalker Laser.
