While general and preventative dentistry is vital considerations to ensure good oral health and to catch potentially devastating diseases before they begin, cosmetic dentistry is also an important consideration. An Orlando dentist who provides cosmetic dentistry can ensure that you have the strong, straight, white smile that you deserve and help improve your self-confidence and self-image. Of course, you might not be aware of what is included with cosmetic dentistry in Orlando, or the benefits that the various treatments offered. Below, we’ll explore the many options available to you with the right dentist in Orlando, how each of these treatments can help improve your life, and more.

Services Included with Cosmetic Dentistry

You’ll find that the range of services included under the cosmetic dentistry heading can vary significantly from one dental office to another. However, here at University Dental Group, we are proud to offer one of the longest lists of services, treatments, and solutions to help improve your smile and give you the boost of self-confidence you need.

Teeth Whitening

When it comes to cosmetic dentistry, one of the most popular and sought-after services is teeth whitening. This can be provided as part of a full smile makeover process, or as a standalone treatment. At University Dental Group, we use the Zoom! teeth whitening system to ensure the best possible results and little to no discomfort at all.

Unlike other systems on the market, the Zoom! teeth whitening system uses a hydrogen peroxide gel to whiten your teeth. During your initial assessment, you will come to the office and sit for a full evaluation. Then, we will make a custom mold of your mouth. Based on that mold, we will create a series of trays. During the first visit, you will sit for about an hour with the first tray and gel, allowing the bleach to do its work.

After your initial visit, it may be necessary to send you home with additional trays, as well as further gel treatments. You will be provided with full instructions on how to use the gel, as well as how long you can leave it in your mouth without discomfort. Once you have completed the full course of treatment, the results of your teeth whitening will be assessed and we will determine whether anything else needs to be done.

Dental Bonding

Do you have deeply discolored teeth that cannot be addressed with a whitening treatment? Do you have chipped or cracked teeth, but aren’t a candidate for veneers? If that sounds like you, dental bonding can be an effective, expedient treatment option for you. This cosmetic dentistry treatment is an ideal solution for patients in just your position.

In dental bonding, you will go through an initial assessment to determine the right course of action. Next, your Orlando dentist will apply the tooth-colored material to the affected tooth or teeth. This material will be shaped and formed to resemble a natural tooth and will be color matched to the rest of your teeth. It is cured in a just a short time, and you will only need a single office visit to complete the process.

Dental bonding can be used in a number of different situations. For instance, if your teeth are brown or gray, rather than yellow, this can be a good whitening solution. If two teeth are chipped or cracked, bonding can help, and it can also be used if you have misshapen teeth that make you feel uncomfortable when smiling.

Inlays and Onlays

Do you have old fillings that are failing, or that have already failed? Do you have old amalgam fillings that stand out when you talk, smile or laugh? If so, inlays and onlays might be good options for your needs. These cosmetic dentistry solutions allow you to protect your teeth while avoiding the problems inherent with old, failed fillings.

While inlays and onlays are used to address the same problems, they are actually designed for different needs. For instance, inlays are used to fill the inside of teeth cusps and work more like a conventional filling. They are colored to match the tooth perfectly, as well.

Onlays cover both the cusp and the upper portion of the tooth. Like inlays, they are colored to match your teeth. Both inlays and onlays can last for years with the right care, particularly if you make sure to schedule your bi-annual cleanings and checkups routinely.

Porcelain Veneers

Many of our patients come to our Orlando dentist office with complaints about their teeth being unevenly spaced, or with serious gaps. Others dislike the uneven shape of their teeth or have significant staining that cannot be addressed with teeth whitening. For these patients, and those with many other problems, the ideal cosmetic dentistry treatment might be porcelain veneers.

Essentially, veneers are just thin shells made from porcelain that is adhered to the outside of your teeth. A significant amount of preparation must be done to your natural teeth to ensure that the bonding holds and is permanent. Once your teeth have been prepared, our Orlando dentist will take molds of both your upper and lower jaw. Based on these molds, we will create custom porcelain veneers and then bond them in place.

While porcelain veneers are designed to be permanent, they do not last forever. You will also need to ensure that you care for your teeth properly in order to maximize their lifespan. Generally, it takes about two visits to fit you with veneers and to address your cosmetic dentistry concerns.

Snap-On Smile

Don’t want to go through the prep work involved with porcelain veneers, but still need a solution to your cosmetic dentistry challenges? Snap-On Smile might be the solution you’re seeking. Combining the benefits of veneers with the ease of use of a mouth guard, these dental appliances can address discoloration, misalignment and gapping, tooth decay, misshapen teeth and a great deal more.

Like veneers, it will usually take two office visits to address your concerns with Snap-On Smile. The first visit will require that we take molds of your teeth. Then, your snap-in appliances will be designed based on those molds. An end result is an appliance that snaps in place over your teeth that is strong enough for daily use, but not as permanent as veneers. There is no preparation needed for your natural teeth, as Snap-On Smile appliances do not permanently adhere to your teeth (they are removable).

Please note that Snap-On Smile appliances are not right for all cosmetic dentistry needs. These appliances are best used to address staining and discoloration, or slight gapping and unevenness in your teeth. The best option would be to discuss your specific needs with your dentist in Orlando to ensure that you are able to achieve the right treatment option.

While both Snap-On Smile appliances and porcelain veneers can offer benefits to those struggling with discolored, misshapen or gapped teeth, Lumineers might be a better option for some. This cosmetic dentistry treatment falls between the two other options in many ways.

Like veneers, Lumineers are applied to prepared teeth and are based on custom molds taken of both your upper and lower teeth. However, like Snap-On Smile appliances, Lumineers are not as permanent as porcelain veneers. And, while there is preparation work needed to ensure that the Lumineers can bond correctly with your teeth, there is far less than what is needed with conventional veneers. The result is a faster process and a beautiful smile that you can be proud to show off anywhere, anytime.

As a note, porcelain veneers are the longest lasting of these three cosmetic dentistry treatments. With the right care, they can last for decades. Lumineers and Snap-On Smile appliances will not last as long, but have less intensive preparation requirements and may be a better fit for your needs. Speak with your dentist to determine which is the better choice to correct your cosmetic issues and create the bold smile of your dreams.

Smile Makeover Treatments

It is no secret that if you are afraid to smile, laugh or even talk in front of others, your confidence will suffer dramatically. That can lead to serious problems in both your personal and professional life. Our smile makeover treatments can help you address challenges with many different cosmetic dentistry treatments depending on your needs. However, don’t believe that these are merely cosmetic. Many of them are reconstructive and will help to reshape your mouth

Some of the most common elements of a smile makeover treatment include teeth whitening and realignment with braces or the Invisalign system. However, in some cases, we may need to use other solutions, including bridges and crowns. Dental implants may also play a role depending on the extent of deterioration in your teeth, and smile makeovers can also include bonding in some cases.

If you are interested in a complete smile makeover, we invite you to speak with our dentist. You will need a custom treatment plan developed on your specific situation, your goals, and your budget. We will be happy to help you achieve the smile of your dreams.

Braces have been used to straighten crooked teeth for decades now, and they are a tried and true solution to ensuring that you have the even, healthy smile you want. Modern braces, while still featuring metal brackets and wires, are very different from those of yesteryear. There are alternative options available, such as braces that fit behind the teeth, as well as clear brackets and wires that make them less visible and more appealing to older patients.

We can customize a treatment plan based on your needs and goals, as well as the constraints placed on you by extracurricular activities, or even worry about how wearing braces in the workplace might affect your life.

Need to straighten your teeth but don’t want to deal with conventional metal braces? No worries. The Invisalign system can give you the straight, healthy smile you crave and is virtually invisible. Unlike metal braces, you will not have to worry about cleaning around the brackets, about wires poking you in the mouth, or any other common problems.

The Invisalign system is basically a custom series of clear retainers. They fit over your natural teeth and gently guide them into the desired position. Each retainer is slightly different from the others, and over time you will be able to achieve perfectly straight teeth without metal playing a role.

In addition to not using metal wires or brackets, you will find that this cosmetic dentistry system offers a number of other benefits. For instance, you can remove the retainers to brush your teeth and when eating or drinking. You can also benefit from a shorter time to achieving the ideal position for your teeth.
